stills: a weekly collection

1. Sol's fourth birthday party spread - carrot and cumin hummus with rice crackers, feta and spinach frittata, savoury gluten free muffins, brown rice sushi rolls with tuna, avocado and carrot. (not pictured salsa and corn chips).

2. Chai for the grown ups. I love drinking chai at the park.

3. Sol's jellyfish cake. Thank you Women's Weekly kids party cake book for the inspiration. Yes gasp that is blue jelly you see there.

4. Sol's kinder teacher is an exceptional woman, so loving and nurturing, she creates a beautiful space in the kinder room both by how she decorates it and by her warmth. I am grateful to have her in our life. This is a sign she has at the entrance to the room.

5. Beautiful strawberries, I haven't met a child yet who doesn't love this fruit.

6. Morning light. My favorite.

7. Another piece of kinder inspiration. (Pay no attention to this if you are having a grumpy mummy day ;) that's not the days we're talking about)

1. I hope you like salad because we're going to be eating a lot of that around here, the garden is a patchwork of big fat lettuces

2. a beautiful morning mess

3. my new camera and I still getting acquainted

4. boiled oranges waiting to be turned into...

5. flourless orange and poppyseed cake, in place of 1 cup of caster sugar I used 3/4 cup of coconut palm sugar and it was still a bit sweet, I think 1/2 a cup will do next time. Plus I iced it with the finest sheen of icing sugar mixed with lemon juice

6. this painting caught my eye in a local art show, intense but somehow still beautiful

7. greens from the garden + chillies + garlic + fresh abalone cooked in the wok = our kind of happy meal

8. River receiving first prize for his year level in the local historical writing competition, yes a proud parent moment. The stories were about Indigenous culture and traditional life was like for Aboriginal people.

9. Sol chasing River to get his hands on the prize

10. omg the prize! Can you believe it?! The chocs, plus $10. The other mums were chuckling "Of all the kids to win a box of chocolates". The chocolates were shared. Far and wide!

1. Salad from our garden for breakfast, lunch and dinner there are so many leaves to be eaten.

2. Drying cutlery. Takes me back to my restaurant days.

3. Real food has dirt on it.

4. Our favorite pie. You can find the recipe at the bottom of this post.

5. "Mum can we make a TV so I can read the news?" asked River while he was home from school sick this week. He's never seen a news program but somehow he sounded just like a newsreader! (The spoon in the cup is his microphone).

6. Cut up onion in the bowl beside the bed worked wonders for clearing Sol's snuffly breathing, such a simple effective remedy.

7. Hmmm who would those finger swirls belong to in this bowl that held the melted chocolate? River and Sol helped me make Georgia's completely delicious chocolate, almond and coconut bars. Now to hide them from Pete.

2. Soy cappacino @ Footbridge

3. Beauty

4. My fishermen

5. Me and my Mr River

6. Birthday bunting made by Jay for River. Thank you xx

7. The makings of chicken curry...green beans and broccoli were added later. I almost set the kitchen alight grilling papadums. Pulled the grill tray out to flames!! Phew. Tip: papadums grill quickly.

8. Humble real everyday food in all its simple glory

9. The view from our Brunswick Heads holiday unit kitchen. Quite happy to wash the dishes and take this in.

10. Raw chocolate heaven - rose petals, goji berries and bee pollen held together by dense and decadent raw dark chocolate @ Brunswick Heads Health Foods my other favorite coffee spot in Brunz.

11. While Sol played in his cubby on the sand...

12. River and Pete took to the waves

13. Yep I was tearing up seeing River take off on his first waves and watching the bond between he and Pete. Oh how I love the heart swells of motherhood, I will add it takes very little to have me tearing up, a word, a look, a giggle can do it so standing up on a surfboard warranted it.

7. The day after the bonfire dandelion tea party in the late afternoon sun
9. Raw chocolate mousse cake with rose petals, afternoon tea with chai at Brunswick Heads health food store cafe. Yes it was as good as it looks.

Sol is continuing to wake early (today it was 4.45am), sleep deprivation is taking its toll and early nights are the only way I can keep from being a very grumpy wholefood mama. Night time is usually my blogging time so these stills are here today instead of on sunday and the whole long list of posts I have lined up in my imagination will be rolled out at a pace that fits with what I can do instead of what I'd like to do. You know how that goes. Thought so :)

I hope you are having many happy wholefood times. More soon. Thanks for being patient xx
